Disneyland 2011

After we found out Adam made it into optometry school this fall, Adam became determined to take me to Disneyland before school started so we could have fun and relax. I was reluctant at first because of our financial situation, but when we sold his truck for more money than we needed to move to Arizona, I ran out of excuses. Don't get me wrong, I wanted to go and have fun, but somehow things are less fun when you know that you don't have the money to do them. Anyways, we left the boys behind with Adam's parents and went on a three day trip. It was really nice to not have to tend to any children for those three days and be able to focus on our relationship.

We went on the new Star Tours ride twice, and we liked it. They start out by saying you have a rebel spy on board and show a random picture of someone in your group that was taken before the ride started. The first time we went on it, I was the rebel spy. And typically 3D stuff makes me a little nauseous because of the different layers and how some are not always in focus, but I thought the 3D animation was really good. We also rode on the new Little Mermaid ride in California Adventure, which we also liked. Some of their anamatronics were really cool- especially Ursula and Sebastian. Adam also made me go on the Hollywood Tower of Terror ride in California Adventure, and I was really nervous the first time. After I survived, I suffered through it 2 more times since it was Adam's favorite ride, and by the third time, the ride wasn't quite as scary for me :) I think my favorite ride was either Thunder Mountain Railroad in Disneyland or California Screamin' in California Adventure. Actually, Screamin' made me think of the time my family went to Disneyland when I was in 9th grade and we rode the roller coaster a couple of times to figure out where they took the picture and then rode it one or two more times until we got a picture where we all looked scared, bought it, and then showed it to my little brother who took one look at the picture and insisted he would never ride that roller coaster. Then my dad left it on the plane when we flew home- sad, but funny! Or at least we thought so.

We also went on Splash Mountain 3 times and the first time we were both bone dry at the end, except the residual water left on the seats from the group before ours. Then the second time, we got put in the front with a bunch of teenagers in the back and we thought we should be ok since all of us were relatively thin. We couldn't have been more wrong! I was in the very front and got drenched, and Adam, who sat behind me, wasn't any better. The we immediately got back in line for one more go before we went back to the hotel since we were already wet. (Thankfully the lines were really small at this point because they were doing some show in the middle of the park that a lot of people were watching.) This time, we asked to be put in the back because of our last experience and a bunch of large people were put in front of us. After the first drop, it looked liked we were doomed again, and we were! We got wet again, but thankfully, we were done for the night and we could go to the hotel and change into dry clothes.

Since we were there for 2 1/2 days without kids, we were able to ride all of the rides we wanted to and we were definitely ready to be done when it was time to go back home. But we had a lot of fun, and we're recharged to be parents again (at least for the next couple of days :).

I thought these caramel apples were cool- they also had some that were Minnie Mouse

This is what Adam would have looked like after the teacup ride if he hadn't taken his motion sickness medicine- no joke! :)

What a fun getaway for the two of you! I'm glad you did it--although I know that feeling of wanting something but knowing how far else you could stretch that money!! Glad you're enjoying these last weeks before graduate school!

What a fun getaway! I am somewhat jealous! :o) I would LOVE to do something like that with Ben but it would take a TON of convincing, plus he hates Disneyland.
Good luck with your move and optometry school. Glad you guys got to do something fun before the work begins!

I'm s glad you guys were able to do go do something fun together. It can be so nice to get out and do fun stuff without kids sometimes (even when we do love them like crazy . . . the crazy part being a key word). It looks like you had a blast!
